POSITION SUMMARY:
We are seeking a proactive NPI Engineer to lead the transition of innovative sonar products from engineering design into full-scale manufacturing. This role ensures smooth product launches by coordinating engineering changes, resolving quality issues, and driving design for manufacturability and testability (DFM/DFT). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electronics or mechanical engineering, lean manufacturing principles, and process optimization.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Sustaining and Engineering Change Coordination
- Manage and coordinate Engineering Change Requests (ECR), Engineering Change Orders (ECO), and Engineering Sales Quotations (ESQ) throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure timely implementation of changes and maintain accurate documentation in PLM systems.
- Collaborate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve technical and obsolescence concerns quickly and effectively.
- Drive root cause analysis and corrective actions for component or process issues.
- Support and sustain existing products and production lines by effectively identifying and resolving issues.
New Product Introduction
- Lead the introduction of new sonar products from engineering into manufacturing, ensuring readiness of processes, tooling, and documentation.
- Develop and execute NPI plans, including pilot builds and production ramp-up.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities between R&D, supply chain, and production teams.
- Support component obsolescence by working with engineering and supply chain to identify alternatives and maintain continuity.
Design for Manufacturability and Testability (DFM/DFT)
- Review product designs for manufacturability and testability early in the development cycle.
- Provide feedback to design engineers to optimize assembly, reduce cost, and improve quality.
- Support development of test strategies and fixtures for efficient production testing.
Process Design and Optimization
- Design and optimize manufacturing processes (including process instructions) for sonar systems to improve efficiency and reduce waste.
- Implement lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Develop and maintain accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing structures.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).
- 3+ years of experience in NPI, manufacturing engineering, or product development.
- Strong understanding of ECR/ECO processes and PLM systems.
- Familiarity with DFM/DFT principles and production test methodologies is preferred.
- Experience in lean manufacturing, process design, and optimization.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience in electronics manufacturing or electromechanical assemblies.
- Knowledge of ERP systems and supply chain processes.
